My Name is Pearl and I'm a Bovine

My name is Pearl and I'm a bovine! I weigh around 1400 pounds. I'm trained to lead, milk, pull in the harness and ride like a horse -- with a bridle and saddle or I can be ridden bareback.

cow on parade

My best human friend Krystle trained me and five other bovines as well. Twice my friend rode me, in the rodeo parade, and I won first place ribbons both times. I had to go in the kids section of the parade, because I was scared of the horses and I get along very well with children. I'm quiet and very gentle. I like people -- my best people friend has played with me since I was born.

Different people have ridden me at times, even children, but Krystle has ridden me for many miles over the years. Cows just walk along when someone rides them, not that we can't run, but it's harder to keep the saddle on than with a horse. Once when I stopped to get a drink of water at the creek, I put my head down, my best human friend, my saddle, blanket and everything fell over my head into the creek. It was pretty funny, I had to chuckle to myself! Heeeeee! Heeee! Krystle and the saddle were both soaking wet.

I can move the big round bales of hay all by myself, when I'm in the harness, or I can pull a sled or stone boat. Once when my people friend and I were out riding, I looked across the highway so that my friend would look too -- I wanted her to notice what I was looking at. It was a big grizzly. Cows are afraid of bears. We saw him once after that up by another farm. I always let Krystle know, so we can get out of there in a hurry.

I'm a member of the human family; in fact, I'm more friendly than most of them! My people tell me I'm irreplaceable when they're giving me bubble baths and feeding me cow cookies. I like to run and play with the other cows and help out around the farm.
